University of Rawalpindi hosted a Thalassemia Awareness Campaign on January 21, 2026, at the UOR Seminar Hall. The event was organized by Dr. Saniya Moazzam in collaboration with the Global Youth Forum for Health Awareness (GYFHA).

The campaign aimed to raise awareness about thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder, by educating students and the university community about its causes, symptoms, prevention, and the importance of early diagnosis. The initiative also sought to engage students in health awareness and community-focused activities.

Several interactive activities were conducted during the campaign, including a poster competition and a speech competition, where students highlighted the significance of thalassemia awareness, early screening, and social responsibility. Awareness sessions were also held to provide accurate information about the genetic nature of the disease and preventive strategies. Food stalls were arranged to encourage student participation and create an engaging environment.

Certificates were awarded to all participants and attendees by the Global Youth Forum for Health Awareness, while prizes were distributed among the winners of the poster and speech competitions in recognition of their creativity and contributions.

The campaign successfully enhanced students’ understanding of thalassemia and fostered a sense of social responsibility, community engagement, and health awareness, reflecting UOR’s commitment to promoting student wellbeing and public health education.
