Pakistan marked a significant milestone on 25 February 2026 by hosting the 12th Edition of the UNCITRAL Asia Pacific Days for the first time in the country. The prestigious event was jointly hosted by the Indus Mediation and Dispute Resolution Centre (IMDRC) and University of Rawalpindi (UOR), in partnership with the UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RCAP). The program underscored Pakistan’s growing engagement with international legal frameworks and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

Held under the theme “UNCITRAL Mediation Framework and Legal Harmonization in the Digital Trade Era,” the event brought together distinguished legal experts, academics, policymakers, and students. Opening remarks were delivered by Sami Ur Rehman, followed by a keynote session by Athita Komindr, Head of UNCITRAL RCAP, who spoke on the Model Law on International Commercial Mediation and the Singapore Convention.

The program featured insightful discussions on Pakistan’s mediation and ADR initiatives by Ehsan Ullah Khan Mehsud, along with a presentation by Michael Chan on the CLOUT system and comparative case law. Kazuaki Takahashi provided guidance on UNCITRAL learning modules and internship opportunities. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, engaging students both in person and online, followed by a vote of thanks by Rasool Khan Mahsud.

The successful hosting of this international program significantly strengthened Pakistan’s position in global mediation dialogue and reaffirmed UOR’s commitment to advancing legal education and international collaboration.
