The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), University of Rawalpindi (UOR), organized a Faculty Development Workshop titled “Effective Teaching Methodologies: Managing Challenging Student Behavior and Creating an Inclusive Classroom” on 20 August 2026 at the university's Conference Room. The session was facilitated by Dr. Muhammad Salman Chughtai, Department of Applied Business and Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences and Management.
The workshop focused on strengthening teaching practices by moving beyond passive content delivery towards active, participatory, and student-centered learning. Faculty members explored practical methodologies, including Think-Pair-Share, flipped classrooms, problem-based learning, peer instruction, jigsaw activities, and formative assessment.
Dr. Muhammad Salman Chughtai also addressed common classroom challenges, including disruption, disengagement, and disrespect. Faculty members were introduced to constructive strategies such as non-verbal cues, private redirection, clear classroom expectations, varied participation methods, and calm, behavior-focused responses to support a respectful learning environment.
The session further highlighted Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to promote inclusion. Participants discussed ways to provide multiple means of accessing course content, introduce flexible assessment methods, scaffold complex tasks, use inclusive language, incorporate diverse perspectives, and establish regular feedback mechanisms.
Through interactive discussions and practical examples, faculty members shared classroom challenges and explored effective responses. The workshop concluded with a four-pillar classroom management framework centered on foundations, engagement, behavior response, and inclusion.
The initiative reflects QEC’s continued efforts to enhance teaching quality and support faculty in creating inclusive, respectful and engaging learning environments that place students at the center of the learning experience across the University of Rawalpindi.
