Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, Chairman Higher Education Commission, officially launched the inaugural session of the Vice Chancellors Forum Islamabad–Rawalpindi on 9th June 2026, hosted by University of Rawalpindi.
The first gathering brought together Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Presidents from more than 25 universities of the twin cities, creating an important platform for dialogue, collaboration, and exchange of ideas among higher education institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman HEC emphasized that such platforms can help universities move beyond isolated efforts and work collectively to strengthen academic quality, promote research culture, and respond effectively to emerging challenges in the higher education sector.
He appreciated the initiative and acknowledged the active participation of university leaders from Islamabad and Rawalpindi. He also specially recognized Mr. Murtaza Noor, National Coordinator, IUCPSS, for his role in making the forum possible as a follow-up to the recommendations of the recent 6th International Students Convention & Expo, organized in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission.
Chairman HEC expressed the hope that the Vice Chancellors Forum would continue as a regular platform for meaningful engagement, institutional cooperation, and academic advancement in the region.
The Chairman HEC and participating Vice Chancellors also thanked Dr. Muhammad Abubakar, Chairman Board of Governors and Rector, University of Rawalpindi, for hosting the event.
The gathering concluded with an Eid Milan dinner, informal interaction among university leaders, and a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony to mark the launch of the forum.
The Higher Education Commission also shared an official update regarding the launch of the forum on its social media platforms.
